Marc BolanRide a White Swan - T.Rex

Marc Bolan's first single after he dropped the 'Warlock of Love' elves and wizards thing and became T.Rex, and their first number one in a series of hits unmatched in quality by any other British artist before or since.

Ride a White Swan? I'd imagine he had to have to tie the little saddle over the wings to stop the flapping from the animal's 6-7ft wingspan.

Though I don't think Marc would have been able to ride to the shops on the back of Cygnus olor (the mute swan) if he couldn't even handle the steering on a Mini 1275 GT.

Marc Bolan's brand of fey electric mystic cock rock could have only flourished during the late sixties and early seventies. Today he'd be selling pagan jewelry and pewter dragons on eBay.

Has anyone ever made something useful out of Pewter? Or at least something that wasn't dragon, elf or wizard related? Eh? Eh?

Sanford Clark The Fool - Sanford Clark

Classic rock 'n' roll from Phoenix Arizona written and produced by local radio D.J. and cult pop hero Lee Hazlewood and covered by Elvis in the seventies.

After The Fool in 1956 Clark attempted follow-up hits for over a decade until he semi-retired from recording to return to working as a labourer and blackjack player, thus avoiding the fate of all ageing pop stars; being an old man with young man's hair.

...a thought that occured to me recently while watching a pop award show on TV and wondering why Simon LeBon has hair like a Versace male model yet a face like Richard Nixon.

I was brought up to believe that you should never call anyone a 'fool' in case they genuinely have learning difficulties. Just like you should never call anyone a 'bastard' in case they're genuinely illegitimate...

Unless they're a white South African obviously.

Manifesto & Book News

If it's ever been on K-Tel or Ronco, it's in. If it features hand claps, cow bells, syrupy orchestration, walls of sound, wrecking crews, sha-la-las, toothy teen idols, candy-based metaphors for carnal acts or lyrics about hugging, squeezing and rocking all night long, it's in.

It doth shine like an Egyptian ruby
