Andy GibbShadow Dancing - Andy Gibb

Andy never achieved full Bee Gee status, but scored several hits in he wake of his Brother's success with the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.

I recently saw Staying Alive, the Saturday Night Fever sequel. Written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, Staying Alive "guest stars" and features songs by Sly's brother Frank.

Frank also stars in Easy Kill, a low-budget crime thriller set in Los Angeles but filmed on location on the Channel Islands. You can tell it's low budget when the opening credits read: "Special Guest Star - Cameron Mitchell as Eddie", and by the fact that Frank Stallone's character is named 'Frank'.

Despite the feeble budget, Easy Kill's Guernsey origins are only obvious in the scene where Frank, after tracking cocaine traffickers to their hideout in his blue Pontiac, has to pay £3 to park in a field.

Frank Sinatra I Write the Songs - Frank Sinatra

Francis Albert sings Barry Manilow? It's like Christmas, Birthday and my First Holy Communion all rolled into one. But Frank misses the point, along with a few notes and it makes track 10 on my Worst of Frank Sinatra compliation C90.

In his brilliant original lyrics Manilow casts himself as Orpheus, son of Apollo and Calliope and musical muse throughout the ages. Orpheus accompanied Jason and the Argonauts on their expedition to Colchis and helped the crew avoid the sirens by covering their seductive but deadly sounds with his lyre playing and easy-going pop melodies... Or was that Neil Sedaka?

Other tracks on my Worst of Frank Sinatra cassette are his versions of Love Will Keep Us Together by the Captain and Tennille, The Morning After - The Love Theme from the Poseidon Adventure and Digging Your Scene by the Blow Monkeys.

Manifesto & Book News

If it's ever been on K-Tel or Ronco, it's in. If it features hand claps, cow bells, syrupy orchestration, walls of sound, wrecking crews, sha-la-las, toothy teen idols, candy-based metaphors for carnal acts or lyrics about hugging, squeezing and rocking all night long, it's in.
