Jacques DutroncLe Respon-sable - Jacques Dutronc

Rip open a cardboard huit pack of 330cl bottles of biere, fill up an empty orange cordial bottle with cheap red from le supermarchè, cut yourself a slice of the Gateaux from the Chateu and enjoy some Gallic Garage Rock 'N' Roll; some Parisian Northern Soul from l'annèe soixante neuf.

Jacques Dutronc has a large following with cult music lovers largely because of a handful of psych pop classics he recorded before he embarked on a successful film career in the seventies and eighties (French films; mucky ones on Channel 4... you wouldn't have seen them).

France Gall Bèbè Requin - France Gall

France Gall stars as my neighbour's Au Pair in the unfilmed culture clash sitcom in my head. We go for a drive. It's sunny so I take the top down: "Is zis how you say, 'Having it off?'"

The audience explodes with laughter

France Gall's first hit was the Eurovision entry 'Poupee de Cire, Poupee de Son' (No, I have no idea either).

"I am writing to my parents, non. It is ze, how you say, French Letter?'"

More uncontrollable laughter

Manifesto & Book News

If it's ever been on K-Tel or Ronco, it's in. If it features hand claps, cow bells, syrupy orchestration, walls of sound, wrecking crews, sha-la-las, toothy teen idols, candy-based metaphors for carnal acts or lyrics about hugging, squeezing and rocking all night long, it's in.
