Whenever I visit a petrol station - to top-up on Premium Unleaded; to buy charcoal briquettes from the forecourt; to purchase a post-pub pasty or Pork Farms brand scotch egg from the chilled foods section - I pause, bow my head and remember the prince of Texas rock 'n' roll.

Unfortunately, the only women there were excessively hair spray-ed, hot-flushing divorcees in cerise silk shirts: dead ringers for Barbera Dickson and Elaine Paige in the 'I Know Him So Well' video. Damn.
